This is the field of competitors for the 2024 Olympic women's vault competition in Paris.
The anticipated field for the women's artistic gymnastics vault finals, which take place on Saturday at the Paris Olympics, is led by Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade.
One of Biles' signature gymnastic routines is the vault, and she proved why on Thursday at the women's all-around competition, when she took first place after mastering a Yurchenko double pike—a move that has since been dubbed the "Biles II."
With a score of 15.300, Biles won the vault qualifying competition earlier in the week.
Andrade of Brazil is anticipated to be one of her main rivals in the competition. With a score of 14.683, Andrade placed second in the vault qualification competition. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Andrade won the gold medal in the vault, and in the 2023 World Championships, he defeated Biles.
Biles scored the best vault score and took home the gold in Thursday's all-around final. With the second-best vault score and the silver medal, Andrade set the stage for an intense and competitive apparatus final on Saturday.
How does one get into the vault final?
The final of each apparatus is open to the top eight qualifiers from the earlier Olympic all-around qualifying. Gymnasts only execute two vaults on the vault apparatus, and their combined scores determine their qualification total.
A maximum of two gymnasts from each nation or organizing committee may compete in each event, according to a rule. In other words, the third competitor would not be allowed to compete if the United States had more than two gymnasts in the top eight.
Who is participating in the vault final for women's artistic gymnastics?
Simone Biles has the highest qualifying score of 15.300. Rebeca Andrade of Brazil qualified with a 14.683 score. With a score of 14.333, U.S. gymnast Jade Carey qualified third.
